Why learning a language online is the ideal way for young learners

by | Jul 29, 2022

Today’s generation was born into a technological world. Growing up in a digital environment has increasingly defined their way of learning and this generation will participate in a world which will be 100% digital.

Based on that, it seems clear that learning online is something young learners feel comfortable with. In fact, it feels natural to them.

After the pandemic, the whole world had to adapt to a new learning environment, but for young learners already born into the digital era, many were able to change their habits effortlessly.

When it comes to learning a language there are many advantages of learning online, and they are more obvious when the target group is young learners. Students between 10 and 18 years old are curious and energetic and the task of getting involved in a fun and fascinating world of language learning can seem naturally intriguing and even sometimes exciting for them.

Learning a language at an early age is important and it should be fun and promote a healthy development. And learning virtually can makes everyone’s life easier. It is more convenient for learners because they can learn in an enjoyable way which also suits them better, while for teachers it is possible to create a customised experience based on a huge choice of resources that make it possible to deliver high quality lessons.

There are many advantages to learning online, including the flexibility of studying from home or any location. And while there may be a perceived lack of socialising compared to a classroom, which could also be a distraction, there are actually numerous opportunities for interaction online, especially with breakout rooms where it’s possible to divide students into pairs or small groups. Virtual classes can also be less intimidating than face-to-face classes, helping students feel more comfortable to participate. In addition teachers can also be more accessible online as they have different channels of communication,  interaction and ways to address students either as a whole, or in small groups, or even individually.

In my view, when it comes to language learning there are many reasons for choosing online for young learners and I would  argue that online offers an even better experience than traditional classroom learning.
