Celda 211 (2009) – Friday 13 October 7.30pm

Hola chicos,

Winter is coming and what better way to spend an evening than at a private cinema with Vamos.

Next week we’re showing the movie Celda 211. After last month’s Argentinian movie (thank you to the students who came and for having patience despite some technical problems), the next two movies are from Spain.

Celda 211 is a very different movie from the films we’ve been seeing. This time we’re going to see an action movie!

The film is about two men on different sides of a prison riot; the inmate leading the rebellion and the young guard in the revolt who poses as a prisoner in a desperate attempt to survive the riot. The best thing to have an idea of this amazing movie is by watching the trailer below:

In this movie you’ll learn about some historical features of Spain, because in the prison there are some ETA terrorist prisoners. In the 90´s and early 2000 there was a big controversy with ETA prisoners including campaigns demanding they be held in prisons close to the Basque country instead of prisons far away from their families and friends.

(The reason they were kept far away was to make it harder to organise terrorist activities from inside the prison.)

The main character in the movie is Luis Tosar, one of the most recognizable and versatile actors in Spain who has won 3 Goya awards, one for his role in this movie. This movie was the first important role for Alberto Ammann who also won a Goya award for Best new actor. If you like Narcos probably you know Alberto Ammann for playing “pacho” from the Cali cartel.

So come and join us in an amazing evening! Te espero.

ENRIC
