Looking for a place to celebrate New Year’s Eve the Spanish way? Don’t worry – Ibérica Canary Wharf have got you covered! Join their late night NYE party from 11pm to 3am on Monday, 31st of December, and enjoy a memorable night with a dash of Spanish spirit in their beautiful bar and lounge area.
Enjoy Ibérica’s authentic Spanish drinks, canapés and great music, toast to a fabulous 2019 with a glass of cava, and start the new year off right with their delicious churros con chocolate. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a Spanish NYE party without Las doce uvas de la suerte (“The twelve grapes of luck”), a tradition that dates back over 100 years.
The tradition of the twelve grapes became established in 1909, and it consists of eating a grape with each bell strike at midnight on the 31st of December. According to the tradition, the 12 grapes symbolise 12 lucky months ahead, so eating the grapes in time leads to a year of prosperity and good fortune.
We cannot confirm that this is the case, but it definitely guarantees starting off the year with a little adrenaline rush, and most likely some laughs (trust me, eating 12 grapes in only a few seconds can get really tricky!).
For those of you who would like to end 2018 with a delicious Spanish dinner, Ibérica Canary Wharf have also prepared a special menu for the occasion. They will be offering a signature Ibérica cocktail on arrival, then a selection of their best-loved tapas, including an impressive-looking scallop dish, seared loin of British venison and (my personal favourite) classic black rice with prawns and squid ink.
The set menu, that you can view here, is priced at £55 per person, and it also includes grapes and a glass of cava if you choose to stay until midnight.
Tickets for the party cost £35 per person and include 2 complimentary drinks, 1 glass of cava at midnight followed by churros con chocolate, and a selection of classic Ibérica canapés.
