My name is María and I am from Madrid. I have also lived in Argentina, Italy and Canada. I have a Master Degree in Audiovisual Communication and I speak 4 languages (Spanish, Italian, English and French). During the last 10 years I have gained an extensive experience in teaching (classes for adults, groups, companies, children) as well as in technical and literary translation (books for children, videogames, websites, subtitles). The wide spectrum of skills that I achieved is thanks to these different experiences and makes me able to manage different situations and deal with many kinds of people.
I am also specialised in creative writing and I am an author of some picture books for children.
We're a little different from other language schools. Our roots lie in the Spanish further education sector and here at Holborn our students have as much fun learning as we have teaching. That’s why our courses are so effective and why our students say our lessons are rewarding and so much fun.
This is the first course in our A2 Elementary levels 4-6.
It’s a 20 hour course aimed at students who have already completed A1 levels 1, 2 and 3. You will follow an established model of teaching through spoken and written activities, extra reading, tests, reviews, ideas, and games in pairs or groups.
We use powerful learning tools such as presentations, images, videos and audio tapes that stimulate our lessons and encourage students to engage with each other in developing the four essential skills – reading, speaking, listening and writing.

I was able to spend my holiday in a very fruitful manner and was very lucky to be taught by the teachers of this Institute. The teachers who taught me were so wonderful, friendly and very competent too. Made me feel at ease right away. The lessons were simple and fun and easy to follow with the method the teachers use for teaching Spanish. I would definitely come back to them whenever an opportunity arises. I really loved the teachers, very good human beings indeed which is a very important aspect too. Thank you for doing a great job of teaching this beautiful language.
Everything was great : ) Alberto was very attentive and patient and I’d like to come back for the next level.
Our teacher is great! I have enjoyed the classes and other activities available for students. There are many opportunities to learn in a variety of ways. Can’t wait to start level 2!
The course covered a variety of topics which were well linked. The pace was quite quick and it is sometimes difficult to keep up if you don’t revise.
This review only got one star as it was not possible to give zero stars.
I took a weeks annual leave to enrol in a one week Spanish course only to be emailed on the DAY the course was due to start to be told it had been cancelled. I have not only wasted a weeks annual leave but have also lost the money for a weekly travel card which cost me 50 quid. Appalling service.
Very nice course; now I feel I know Spanish and I’m not afraid to speak anymore.
Very good, interesting and fun classes! Especially like the fact that Amaya tells us extra tips and information so we understand the concepts.
Very fast paced but without exceeding the group’s ability. Fun and enjoyable.
Vamos has started doing courses online over “zoom”, which is a really easy-to-use video calling platform similar to Skype. Our Level 1 class is small and led by an excellent teacher (Amaya Alonso), who makes the sessions fun and engaging, and builds them to our level. It feels like we get a lot of individual attention. Having only started from scratch a few weeks ago, I already feel like I’m building a good grounding in Spanish. Taking the courses online has made them very accessible, especially during the lockdown period this spring. While the UK is on lockdown, I’m really happy that I’m able to engage in weekly classes and keep up Spanish learning from home.
I’d highly recommend the school.
