Hola chicos y chicas,
Thanks again for coming yesterday to the Cinema Club. It’s great to see that students are loving the idea to watch a Spanish movie with Vamos because like that we can all learn a lot. I could see plenty of faces that also came the first movie so a big thank you!
It looks that we are on our way to make the Cinema club a tradition as we have with our monthly conversation class and tapas; yesterday was the second time we did the Cinema and again we had a full house, that means book as soon as possible your space for next month movie before it becomes full again. This week we sold out on Monday and we had plenty of mails from students that wanted to come, so to avoid that:
The next movies are:
14th July: EL LABERINTO DEL FAUNO
We try to choose a variety of movies from different countries so like that we can reflect the different Spanish accents, traditions and ways of living. The first movie was Argentinian, this one Spanish and later we will show one Cuban and Mexican.
I hope you liked yesterday´s movie as much as I did. “Todo sobre mi madre” deals with complex issues such as AIDS, homosexuality, transsexualism and existentialism, topics Almodóvar always likes to reflect on.
Todo sobre mi madre was a commercial and critical success internationally, winning the Oscar and BAFTA for best foreign Language film, and 6 Goyas.
Let us know what was your favourite part of the movie? Which word you learnt that you didn’t know or which word or expression you realised that they repeated a lot during the film? It would be great if you share this with us in the comments and we can create an interactive debate about the movie. (A prize for the best debater!)
For example one part of the movie that shocked me was of course the beginning when Manuela and Esteban were waiting in the rain. I believe it is a powerful scene when the camera reflects the son´s view from the ground. My favourite character is Agrado because it makes the movie tragic and comic at the same time. Do you agree?
One expression that they use a lot in the movie is “por el amor de dios”, ¿Sabes qué significa?
And did you know that the actor who plays Lola (Esteban’s father) was a politician and a member of the Spanish Parliament for four years?
Muchas gracias a todos y nos vemos el próximo mes en el cine.
Enric
